Swivly privacy policy
Effective 29 October 2026
Swivly is a Chrome extension that opens Google links in the right Google account. It has no servers, no analytics and no ads. This policy explains what the extension handles, where it is kept and who can see it.
The short version
- Everything stays in your browser. Nothing is sent to the developer or to anyone else.
- The extension talks only to Google, using the Google sign-ins already in your browser.
- Nothing is sold, shared, or used for advertising, profiling or credit decisions.
What the extension handles and why
| Data | Why | Where it is kept | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Names, email addresses and profile photo links of the Google accounts signed in to your browser | To show the account picker and open links in the account you choose | Your device (Chrome local storage) | Until updated on the next lookup, or until you uninstall |
| The account you picked most recently | To reuse it for later Google links (15 minutes by default) | Your device | Until it expires, you click Forget, or you uninstall |
| Whether each of your accounts can open a Google Docs or Drive link, and the file owner's organisation name | To open the file in an account that has access | Your device, in temporary browser-session storage | 10 minutes, and cleared when the browser closes |
| History of the last 30 decisions: the kind of link (for example "Google Doc"), which account was used and why | Shown on the extension's diagnostics page so you can see what happened | Your device | The 30 most recent entries; clear any time with "Clear history" |
| Your saved choice of account for each file-owner organisation (for example "Northwind Studio files: team@...") | So you are asked only once when several of your accounts belong to the organisation that owns a file | Chrome sync storage | Until you click Forget in Settings or uninstall |
| Which account each open Gmail tab shows (from the tab's own address, mail.google.com/mail/u/N), and the moment you click a Google link in it. Never your email, and never the link itself | To open a link you click in Gmail in that same Gmail account | Browser session memory on your device; never sent anywhere | Cleared when you close the tab or the browser; a click is used once, within 8 seconds |
| Your settings, including any extra accounts you type in | To remember your preferences | Chrome sync storage, which Chrome may sync across your own signed-in browsers | Until you change them or uninstall |
The history never records link addresses, document names or document contents.
Network requests
The extension sends requests only to Google, from your browser and with your existing Google sign-ins:
- accounts.google.com, to read the list of accounts signed in to your browser, the same list Google's own account switcher shows.
- docs.google.com and drive.google.com, to check which of your accounts can open a link you clicked, by loading that link as each account. Only the response status and the file owner's organisation name are kept.
Google handles these requests under Google's privacy policy, as it would if you opened the links yourself. The extension makes no other network requests.
Permissions
- Redirect Google links (declarativeNetRequest): sends Google links to the extension's account picker. It does not block, read or change other traffic.
- Storage: keeps the data described above on your device.
- Access to google.com and gmail.com: needed for the redirects and for the account and access checks above.
- Access to other sites (optional, off by default): only if you turn on "Also catch Google links clicked on other websites". Even then, the extension acts only on Google links and never reads other sites' content.
Your choices
- Click Forget in the toolbar popup to clear your remembered pick.
- Click Forget next to a saved organisation choice in Settings, or turn off "Links opened from Gmail use that Gmail account".
- Click Clear history on the diagnostics page to delete the decision history.
- Uninstall the extension to delete everything it stored on your device.
Children
The extension is not directed at children and does not knowingly handle children's data beyond the account details described above, which never leave the device.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Material changes will also be noted in the extension's store listing.
